Federation of Irish Societies
How to join FIS

The Federation of Irish Societies welcomes membership from all bona fide Irish organisations in Britain whose aims and objectives do not differ from those of the Federation. We are the largest national umbrella organisation representing the Irish community in Britain, with over 100 affiliated societies. It is a unique organisation bringing together a wide range of groups and services covering a large section of the Irish community in Britain. Our members now cover a broad range of activities and types of group and they provide a wide selection of services for the Irish community.

We meet for three National meetings and one Annual Congress each year. Affiliated societies must attend a minimum of one meeting per annum and tender apologies for at least one other.

We currently have a staff team of 13, headed by our CEO, Jennie McShannon, and a Management Committee of 12. The affiliation fees are as follows:-

Pensioner Groups £10.00 per annum

Non-venue based groups £20.00 per annum

Community Care Agencies£ 35.00 per annum

Housing Associations £35.00 per annum

Clubs & Centres £100.00 per annum

Cultural Groups £20.00 per annum

Affiliation fees for organisations experiencing financial difficulties are negotiable.

A main benefit of affiliation is the opportunity to network. Our objective is to create an environment where Irish organisations can have easy access to each other and share experience and expertise.

Among the many other benefits of affiliation are:-

* Inclusion in the Official Directory & Website
* Use of the FIS mailing list for your publicity material
* Regular mailing from the FIS
* Advice and information as required
* Input into the policy making of the FIS
* Inclusion in any scheme negotiated on behalf of members
* Free or reduced prices on copies of FIS publications

If you are interested in affiliating we require:-

* A letter requesting affiliation
* A copy of your constitution
* A copy of the minutes of the meeting at which your management committee decided to apply for affiliation.

Your application will be reviewed by the Board of Trustees and if acceptable would go forward to the next National Meeting for approval by the members.

We look forward to welcoming your organisation as an affiliate and to hearing from you soon.
