SAFEGUARDING OF VULNERABLE GROUPS ACT

VERY IMPORTANT

If you work with young people or older members of the community you need to be aware of the changes planned from 12th October 2009 and the new safeguards that will introduced to enhance the protection of children and vulnerable adults including the introduction of a new Vetting and Barring Scheme

Any volunteer, member of staff or committee member who:

  • has direct contact with
  • holds sensitive personal information on, or
  • makes important decisions about

vulnerable people, will have to register with the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) who will hold a new list of people who are registered to work with children and vulnerable adults and a list of people who are barred from working with vulnerable groups.

  • CRB and how the new system will work
  • The implications for Irish Voluntary organisations
  • What you need to do
  • Policies and procedures
  • Where to get support and information

There will also be a dedicated afternoon workshop 'Safeguarding in Sports and Dance' facilitated by Simon Kirkland from 'Sport Structures' who provide training on behalf of Sport UK
