As part of the preparations for Census 2011, the ONS are holding a series of Roadshows throughout November, the purposes of which are explained below in an extract from the National Statistics site. Venues and dates of roadshows are also listed. A link is also given below for accessing a registration form for these events.
FIS is encouraging participation by its affiliates and members of the Irish community in these events. We have kept our affiliates informed of developments of the Census process so far, and of our responses to ONS Consultations, in briefings which are published on the FIS website www.irishsocieties.org in the Policy section. If your organization is attending one of these roadshows - and we encourage you to do so - please refer to these documents to refresh your memory regarding the arguments FIS have been putting forward.
November roadshows
Planning and preparations for the Census 2011 is continuing. Extensive, ongoing and effective user and stakeholder consultation is of the utmost importance to the programme.
A series of roadshows are planned for November 2008 to help build on the consultations carried out to date.
Each roadshow will be an all-day event with a break for lunch. Potential subjects to be covered include updates on the progress of the programme, proposed methodologies, and outputs. There will also be an opportunity to discuss in more detail any points arising from the various presentations.
The roadshows are open to all, but due to limitations in the size of some venues, and in order to ensure that participants have any relevant documentation in advance, attendance is by prior arrangement (using the downloadable registration form) with the Census Offices.
The Census Offices may suggest a restriction in the numbers attending from any one organization whilst taking account of the variety of interest within the organization, and it would be helpful if larger organisations arranged their response with this point in mind.
The venues are spread across Wales and England, with two events planned in London because these tend to draw the most participants. The venures are:
