Human Rights Inquiry – call for evidence

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) announced on 6th March 2008 that it was proposing to launch an inquiry to establish how public bodies - such as hospitals, schools, social services or local and national government offices - make sure they treat people well and in line with the requirements of the Human Rights Act.

We are calling for evidence from those who have experience of using public services.

We need you to help us build up an accurate picture of how well things are working now, and tell us what human rights mean to you, so that we can recommend improvements for the future.

Do you know of any public bodies that treat people with dignity and respect or tailor services to suit the needs of different people?

Or have you ever used a public service where you felt that you weren't treated fairly or with dignity or were treated in a way that potentially breached legal requirements under the Human Rights Act?

We would like to know about your experiences - positive or negative.

We would like to invite you to a group discussion from 10am to 1pm on 19th June 2008 at our London Regional Office, 151 Buckingham Palace Road, London, SW1W 9SZ. Lunch and refreshments will be provided and we will reimburse travel expenses. Please could you let us know by 16th June 2008 if you intend to come or not. It would be helpful if you could indicate on the form attached if you require reasonable adjustments to help you participate as fully as possible or have any dietary requirements.
