Luton Irish Forum: Who Are You Genealogy Project May 2010

With funding from The Learning Partnership Bedfordshire & Luton, LIF will be running a programme of family tree workshops in May & June.

The workshops will provide first, second and third generation Irish the skills to create their family tree, together with the opportunity for mutual learning. Families will be targeted, particularly parent/ child, grandparent/ grandchild pairs and couples; to create a greater sense of shared purpose.

Additional support will be provided to learners at LIF Internet Café. Family tree research will be collated in presentation folders, which will have the added benefit of being a memory aid for a community at high risk of developing dementia. The Family Trees will be presented at LIF AGM on 10th July. Participants will be offered the opportunity to access advice on careers or further training.

Nicola Molloy, Cultural and Educational Officer said 'The workshop programme will draw on traditional and new learning. For example, the younger learners will share their PC skills with their older counterparts, including accessing records online. The older generations will impart their knowledge of their extended families and ancestors'.

Workshops will take place at Kathleen Connolly House [102 Hitchin Road, Luton LU2 0ES] from Thursday 13th May, from 12noon to 2pm for 8 weeks. Due to limited access to records, workshops will only being offered to those of Irish decent on this occasion.

Don't be disappointed, book your place today by contacting Nicola or Noelette on 01582 720 447 or email info@lutonirishforum.org.
