Therefore, in partnership with the Learning Partnership Bedfordshire and Luton, Luton Irish Forum developed a Skills for Stewarding Training programme to give stewards the skills required to volunteer effectively, including preparation, first aid and health & safety.
Highly regarded training providers, The British Red Cross and Steward Event Training will deliver components. On completion of the course, Trainees will be required to steward at the 11th annual Luton St Patrick's Festival parade [14th March 2010] and offered careers advice by external Information and Guidance advisors, and access to free National Vocational Qualifications.
The course will run on 3 consecutive Saturdays and a Friday:
(Option 1) 30th January & 6th & 13th & [First Aid] 19th February
(Option 2) 20th, 27th & February and [First Aid] 26th February
At Kathleen Connolly House, 102 Hitchin Road, Luton LU2 0ES
We particularly welcome existing stewards, those who have recently lost their job due to the recession, students aged 19 and over and those who are considering a new career.
Nicola Molloy, Cultural and Educational Officer said 'Skills for Stewarding is a unique way of attracting our target groups that are often excluded and under-represented in learning. We will provide our target groups with useful and engaging learning in a culturally sensitive environment'.
