Kennedy Scott Ltd has recently been awarded LDA funds to deliver a training programme for the London Knowledge (Black Taxi Driver Training) for BAME and Women drivers.
The Mayor, the Greater London Authority (GLA), Transport for London (TfL) and the London Development Agency (LDA) have identified that there is a significant disparity in the number of women (1.6%) and BAME taxi drivers (5%) in comparison to levels of women and BAME employees in other business sectors across London. As part of his Transport Strategy the Mayor wants to both improve taxi availability on the streets of London and increase the proportion of women and BAME drivers to redress the imbalance within the workforce.
The project will support at least 600 Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) and women drivers undertake and successfully complete the Knowledge of London licensed taxi driver programme. The support provided will include:
Knowledge Tuition in groups
Scooter training
Personal Safety Training
Childcare
Language Training
Basic Skills Training
Customer Service Training
Diversity Training
Mentoring
It is intended that the programme will be delivered in partnership with faith and or community groups throughout London who will act as local awareness raising and recruitment points and will also offer suitable venues from which Knowledge of London training support can be provided.
